His journey in technology began not with a business pitch, but with a simple question in a Haryana mandi: how could software make the daily work of a family business easier?
Builder • Engineer • EntrepreneurIn 2010, Satnam Singh was studying in Class 10 when he noticed a persistent challenge in his family's business. His grandfather worked as a crop buyer in a local mandi in Hisar, Haryana. Keeping track of crop purchases, payments and records was time-consuming, especially as transactions and paperwork accumulated.
Rather than seeing the problem as something the family simply had to live with, Satnam began experimenting with a software solution. He set out to organize purchase records and simplify everyday record-keeping—turning an ordinary computer into a practical tool for the people using it.
The first lesson of his entrepreneurial journey was practical: build technology around a problem you understand, and make it genuinely useful for the people doing the work.
When the system proved useful in his grandfather's work, it caught the attention of other agricultural produce buyers. The software was subsequently sold to buyers across parts of Haryana and Rajasthan. What began as a student project had become a product with real customers.
A crop purchase and record-management system for his grandfather's business in Hisar became Satnam's introduction to solving operational problems with code.
Other produce buyers saw value in the same workflow. Adoption and sales expanded across the Haryana and Rajasthan regions, reinforcing the potential of purpose-built software.
Satnam later developed business software for a used-car resale and insurance-related operation. The solution supported workflows in vehicle trading and was subsequently sold to other used-vehicle sellers and businesses.
The early venture operated under the name Expoo Tech. As his work evolved into a broader software-engineering ambition, Satnam eventually adopted the name Groot Software.
Growth is not just the result. It is the philosophy.
The name came after Satnam watched Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The character Groot resonated with him as a symbol of growth, resilience, loyalty and the strength of working together.
That inspiration gave the company's next chapter a name he felt could represent its long-term ambition: Groot Software—an independent software business focused on building useful, dependable technology.
His journey from Expoo Tech to Groot Software reflected a shift from individual solutions for local businesses toward software engineering, architecture and a wider vision for solving business problems.
As Founder and CEO of Groot Software, Satnam brings a hands-on understanding of what happens when an idea meets real-world business requirements. His work connects software architecture, backend engineering, business automation and product thinking.
His interest in helping people grow in technology also appears in his work as a Java backend trainer and mentor. The focus remains consistent: strong fundamentals, useful systems and learning through practical projects.
From paper records in a mandi to modern software products, the common thread is not a single programming language or industry. It is the conviction that technology should make work more reliable, accessible and effective.
