Career in Technology – My Journey

I started my career in 2013 as a PHP Developer, working on dynamic websites and web-based applications. From 2014 to 2016, I gained strong experience in backend development, database management, and custom web solutions using PHP and PHP Frameworks like CodeIgniter and Laravel.

With a passion for entrepreneurship and technology, I founded my first company:

🚀 Expoo Enterprise (2014 – 2016)

I launched Expoo Enterprise as a web development agency focused on delivering custom websites and web applications. Starting alone, I successfully scaled the company from 0 to 25 employees, delivering high-quality software solutions to clients in India and abroad.

🌐 Expon Domain & Hosting Services (Parallel Venture)

Alongside this, I founded my second company — Expon Domain & Hosting Services, providing web hosting, domain registration, server support, and deployment solutions. Both companies combined achieved a monthly revenue of ₹10 lakh.

Turning Point

Even though both businesses were profitable, I realized two major limitations:

PHP development was becoming a low-paying profile compared to modern tech stacks
Service-based businesses are difficult to scale at a global level without a strong product vision

I decided to take a break and evaluate the future of my career in technology. That’s when I chose to transition into modern, scalable technologies.

In 2016, I sold both companies to a business relative for ₹70 lakh and moved to a product and innovation-focused journey in full-stack development.

Transition to MERN Stack

To stay aligned with modern technology trends and high-performance applications, I switched to the MERN Stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js). This transformation opened new doors into cloud-based development, microservices architecture, real-time communication apps, and scalable product engineering.

Building the Next Chapter – Journey to Groot Software

After selling my previous businesses, I continued working with select international and Indian clients as a Full Stack Developer using React.js and Node.js. During this phase, I focused on building scalable web applications, API-based architectures, and cloud deployments while exploring ideas for my next startup.

The Story Behind the Name – Groot Software

While thinking about a powerful and meaningful name for my next venture, I randomly visited Raj Cinema in Jaipur one day and watched Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I was inspired by the character Groot, known for:

✅ Growth
✅ Strength
✅ Loyalty
✅ Team spirit

That moment sparked the idea of naming my company “Groot Software.”

But the name also has a deep technical meaning:

  • G + Root = Groot

  • In Linux, the root is the main directory represented by / and is the superuser with full system access.

  • The G represents Growth, Global Vision, and Greatness.

  • Together, Groot symbolizes a strong technical foundation, control, and limitless possibilities—exactly what I aim to build with technology.

Exploring Enterprise Tech – Transition from JavaScript to Java

While building products for enterprise clients at Groot Software, I realized a critical challenge:
Security and scalability are major priorities for enterprise software. Although the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js) is excellent for building applications quickly, Node.js had limitations in security and enterprise-level architecture at that time.

Around the same period, internet usage in India rapidly increased after the launch of Jio, and businesses started scaling online operations aggressively. I also came across tech news that Uber had built its backend in Python and was struggling with scalability and high infrastructure costs because Python is slower compared to Java and Node.js for heavy concurrent workloads.

This made me curious—what technology do large-scale global companies trust for security, stability, and performance? The answer was clear:

✅ Java dominates the enterprise world
✅ 90% of Fortune 500 companies use Java
✅ It is trusted in finance, banking, telecom, healthcare, and high-security applications
✅ It offers rock-solid security, multithreading, and scalability

That’s when I started exploring Java, and it was love at first sight — powerful, structured, fast, and extremely reliable.

Learning Journey – From Jaipur to Hyderabad

However, there was one challenge:

Jaipur did not have a strong ecosystem for Java—neither for learning nor for career opportunities.

To master enterprise development properly, I decided to move to Hyderabad

in late 2017, the tech capital of India.

There, I joined Durga Soft, one of India’s most respected Java training institutes.

  • I re-learned Core Java and Advanced Java from Durga Sir — a true legend in Java education. His deep clarity of fundamentals changed my engineering mindset.

  • I learned Spring Framework and Hibernate from Naveen Reddy, another exceptional mentor.

  • I even explored Helidon, a modern Java microservices framework used for cloud-native development.

If someone wants to build a strong foundation in Java, I still recommend Durga Sir’s and Naveen Sir’s playlists on YouTube. The content may look old, but the fundamentals are timeless.

Java Career Breakthrough

My first career breakthrough in Java came in May 2018 with BizViz Technologies Pvt. Ltd.
I did not even give an interview for this job. One of the team leads from the company happened to live in the same PG where I was staying in Hyderabad. He saw my work, experience, and journey as an engineer and entrepreneur — and was impressed by my problem-solving ability and knowledge.

He directly called me to the company and I received a Java Backend Developer offer at ₹15 LPA — this moment proved one thing to me:

Skill + Consistency + Real Experience matters more than degrees and formal interviews.

Meeting My Mentor – A Turning Point

After that life-changing project experience, I went to Manoj Sir and said only one line that came from my heart:

“Sir, I want to work with you. I don’t need money. I just want to learn from you.”

At that time, he had recently moved to Jaipur after spending 17+ years working with top global tech companies across the USA, UK, and Europe.

About Manoj Kumar Sharma – My Mentor

Before I continue my story, I must share a glimpse of the man who transformed my thinking as an engineer.

Mr. Manoj Kumar Sharma
CTO & Chief Software Architect – Groot Software

  • Started his tech journey in 2001 in banking software development

  • Worked in the UK and USA with Microsoft on components of Microsoft Excel & Office 365

  • Worked with one of the co-founders of Java to design security systems for a Swiss Bank

  • Built procurement and compliance software for Rasi Labs (Pharma)

  • Worked as a consultant for Infosys and Wipro

  • Architected systems for EnterpriseMind, South Africa

  • Built 90% of Zeta's Payment Gateway System

  • Contributed to the backend of Media.net (Directi Group)

  • Technical outsourcing partner for Synetics, Hyderabad

  • Founded Groot Software in 2016

His mindset is simple:
"Software engineering is not about writing code. It is about solving problems systematically, logically, and sustainably."

My Background – Discipline, Roots, and Values

During my time working in Hyderabad, I struggled with food—oily food everywhere, and no quality North Indian meals. I realized how deeply my roots shaped me.

I was born and raised in a small village in Hanumangarh district, Rajasthan, close to nature and values.

  • My father works in transportation business

  • My mother is a farmer and runs a dairy farm

  • I grew up eating pure desi food—milk, ghee, curd—and real village diet

  • Discipline was a way of life:

    • Sleep at 8:00 PM

    • Wake up at 4:00 AM

    • Hard work first, comfort later

This discipline came from my late great-grandfather – Shri Bhudhram Ram Khowal, a man built by war, sacrifice, and iron determination.

Legacy of My Great-Grandfather

He served in the British Indian Army during World War II and was later left stranded in Europe with no food, no identity, and no support. During that time, many Indian soldiers chose to join Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose to fight for India's freedom.

My great-grandfather joined INA (Indian National Army) and fought against British rule. For 6 years, the family had no idea if he was alive or dead. When he finally returned, he didn’t come back as just a man—he came back as a force. A personality shaped by:

✅ War
✅ Survival
✅ Leadership
✅ Discipline
✅ Courage

He built our family culture on values, fearlessness, and self-respect—and I carry that deeply within me.

Working With My Mentor

After discussions with BizViz management and Manoj Sir, they respected my desire to grow and allowed me to work directly under him—without any interference. That was the biggest turning point of my career.

I moved from Hyderabad to Jaipur to work under his guidance and build something meaningful—not just another software company, but a technology culture.
